CHOCOLATE FUDGE

My Home Magazine Volume 2 number 10This kitchen is so scrumptious you could almost eat it!

Trends come and go. In fashion, literature, films, hairstyles and even holidays, nothing really stays in style for long. Which is why this family felt their 25-year old kitchen was well and truly ready for an update.

 TIME WARP

When the Koroknay family bought their home in the 1990s, it was two storeys with five bedrooms in a lovely level yard. It was also extremely well maintained, but – there’s always a ‘but’ isn’t there? – “it was very ‘70s” Carole Koroknay reports. Though the ‘70s were long gone their spirit lingered on and the kitchen was looking particularly forlorn. “It was very tired,” she sighs.

So, the big project began and not just for the kitchen either, the entire place needed a bit of a makeover.

Kitchen ImageThe combined kitchen and living area was extended, as were three of the bedrooms upstairs. The main bathroom and master ensuite also got a revamp and gradually the jaded 1970’s feel was peeled away and replaced with modern features.

 CALLING IN THE PROS

Renovating a house is a big job, so Carole called in the professionals. First she contacted designer Jodie Carter and they began by working on the kitchen layout and colour scheme together.

The only must-haves for Carole were lots of big drawers and a generous workable pantry. Then – with the design in place – the fun could begin, and the Koroknays employed Poliform to make it a reality.

The kitchen opens into the living area and blends beautifully with the rest of the home. Contemporary straight lines define it and the warm chocolate colour scheme is an excellent base for decorating. It’s also extremely suitable for a kitchen – it’s just so mouth-watering!

Tap ImageThe result was a stylish and functional room. “The sink, cooktop, ovens, refrigerator and pantry are all in a line,” explains Carole, “Which is fantastic.” The drawers are fitted with dividers for kitchen utensils and pots and pans, but best of all it’s ‘simply’ practical which makes it easy to cater for a family. And, with its clean colours and basic design principles, it’s sure to be ‘in’ for years to come.
